The Disaster Risk Management (Enforcement Measures) Order, 2020

The Disaster Risk Management Act, 2015 makes provisions for the management and mitigation of disaster, the reduction of risks associated with disaster, and other connected matters.

On March 13, 2020, the Government of Jamaica declared the entire island a disaster area in accordance with S. 26 of the Act in response to the concerns surrounding the growing threat that is the #COVID19 virus. Upon the declaration of a disaster area, the Prime Minister, may, by order, identify and direct the enforcement of a number of measures which he believes are desirable for the removing, mitigating or safeguarding against such a condition or hazard and the likely consequences.

The Disaster Risk Management (Enforcement Measures) Order, was proclaimed and gazetted on the same day. The Order includes limitations on public conduct and business operations, as well as consequences regarding noncompliance of the Order.
